~ MEET TULIP ~

February 24, 2013 - Tulip was transported to Florida Yorkie Rescue with the help of three of our volunteer transporters; Jackie, Jo and Jamie. We are so appreciative of our volunteers!!!

Tulip was dropped off at a Veterinarian Hospital in south Florida by a woman who then left. She would only say that she found her in the street. Tulip was filthy, matted, emaciated and dehydrated. Her tangled hair was stuck to both of her eyes.  When the hair was finally soaked off it was soon discovered that both of her corneas has ruptured leaving poor Tulip blind. She has been seen by an Ophthalmologist and is now taking 38 drops of different eye meds throughout the day. She has an appointment on March 1st with our own Ophthalmologist. We do not know if surgery can repair her eyes or even if there is any hope at all that her sight can be restored at all. We do however believe that God creates miracles. Please help us raise funds for Tulip's care. Her eye meds are very expensive.

March 1, 2013 - Tulip saw our Opthmologist this afternoon and he has diagnosed her right eye as non-viable, meaning that although the eyeball is healing, vision will not be restored. At this time there is a 50/50 chance that the eye itself will need to be removed. If it continues to heal, the eyeball can remain and over time it will shrink and cloud over but surgery will not be required. We have much better news on Tulip's left eye. The Dr. stated that this eye is healing at a rapid pace and he feels confident that her sight will be restored. He does not know to what limit but is optimistic that it may actually restore her sight almost fully. She is wearing a plastic e-collar at this time and we return for a re-check in two weeks. Eye drops are still required but not as many as she had been having last week.

Please see youtube video for her story. More details coming shortly.

Vet bills for Tulip total $807.24 of March 6, 2013
Tulip's Vet bills have all been paid in full!
March 5, 2013 - Tulip had to have her blind eye removed today due to a re-rupture of the cornea which was causing her severe pain. Since she was never going to be able to see out of that eye anyway, it was suggested by our Vet to remove it ASAP. An orbital implant was done so her face would look more symmetircal after she healed. She is home now, has had a meal and is on pain meds... she is sleeping peacefully.

The eye specialist is hopeful that she will actually regain a good quality of sight from her remaining eye once it has healed completely. It will just take some time.
March 20, 2013 - Tulip had her stitches removed. She has healed nicely. Her remaining eye continues to regain vision. It will probably never be perfect but she does have significant sight. The surgeon feels it will continue to imporve over time. She will require eye drops twice a day. She has doubled her weight in three weeks and now weighs a healthy 5 lbs. She is up to date on all vaccinations, microchipped, spayed, fecal negative and healthy. Just waiting for her new home now.
