Sometimes is can take a village to save one tiny little neglected Yorkie named Mason. A BIG thank you to Gretchen, Sherry, Moe, April and Ralph for transporting this very needy little yorkie. His name is Mason and he is only two years old! He has so many things wrong with him I don’t even know where to start. He weighs an emaciated 3.9 lbs. and I can feel every single rib. In spite of all of this he is a friendly little guy. It just breaks my heart.
PLEASE HELP US RAISE FUNDS FOR MASON'S MEDICAL CARE!
VET BILL AS OF 1/14/2013 = $1,448.21
Additional blood work and neutering is needed.
We now have enough money in Mason's account to pay for his expenses.

This video is of Mason and how much he has improved after proper care, meds and diet.
Sunday, November 25, 2012 - Mason was brought to the Vet's office this morning as he appears to be slightly worse and in pain. This is what we know right now.
- Tips of both ears are missing.
- Four to Five toenails are missing.
- His eyes are swollen, right eye swollen shut.
- He had some blood on his nose.
- He has a healed ulcerated cornea in his right eye.
- His rectum is swollen and raw.
- His hindquarters are swollen and raw with large patches of hair missing.
- His tail is swollen and red and all the hair is missing.
- His penis is swollen and red and irritated.
- He tested positive for Tapeworms.
He received some fluids this morning and some pain meds. He is now home resting and seems more comfortable.
Monday - November 26, 2012 - Mason had surgery done on his ears to remove some of the scar tissue. He also had a dental cleaning, come blood work and several biopsies were taken to possibly test for Lupus or an Auto Immune Deficiency problem that might have caused some of his symptoms, ie: missing toes. The results should be back in one week. More to come as it develops.
November 30, 2012 - Mason's blood work and biopsies are back and he appears to have an extremely rare disease that is more often found in Collies, (not Yorkies), called Familial Canine Dermatomyositis. Kudos to my Vet for even testing him for this. Most Vets will not even come across a patient with this disease in their entire career… unfortunately little Mason has it.

To make is simple to understand, the disease causes a decreased blood supply to all of the Mason’s extremities, which can cause missing and deformed toenails, swollen pads, ears tips that slough off, alopecia… missing hair from tail, bald spots, scaling skin, swollen rectum and penis, lesions around the eyes, lips, inner ear, etc. It basically causes havoc with the entire body and the dog can appear bony and frail as well. Mason’s improvement in one week has been due to the medications, diet and care he has received. Lesions can begin to appear during puppyhood so we think Mason has had this disease for the whole two years of life and suffered greatly from it. There is no cure but there are medications that can manage his condition and make it less problematic. We think there will be a dramatic change in his appearance but it will probably take about two months.
This disease however does not cause Anemia, dry eye or emaciation which Mason also has. They are being treated as well. Mason has gone from a weight of 3.7 lbs to 4.2 in record time! GOOD BOY MASON!
December 8, 2012 - Mason is beginning to improve slowly. Some of his medication that had to be specially compounded at the pharmacy have arrived. More medication is due in a week. We also had to order some special skin cream from Canada because the local pharmacy was charging $187.00 for a 30 gram tube. We managed to purchase a 10 gram tube (generic) for $33.00. Mason still has at least one surgery ahead of him. He is still fighting anemia and more blood work will be required as well. Because of his lowered immune system the Vet did not give him any new vaccinations however we did Titer him and found that he still has enough residual vaccinations still in his system to keep him protected. It is going to be a long haul for this sweet boy.

February 8, 2013 - Unfortunately Mason's progress is slow. The skin on his tail begins to heal and then it seems overnight, the entire top layer sloughs off and we have to start all over again. We will be changing his medication next week... plus schedule his neuter and surgery to correct his nostril... more updates coming soon.
